Abstract:
ABSTRACT
String instruments play an integral part in music industry which cannot be replaced under
any circumstances. They produce sound by vibrating strings using different methods like
plucking as in guitar and rubbing using bow as in violin etc. The frequency or tune in every
instrument is modified by the thickness, tension and length of the string used.
In these instruments, there will be change in tension of the string caused by temperature
variation and improper usage of the instruments. So, every string has to be tuned and made
up to the perfect frequency before playing. When two or more instruments are played
together it is particularly important that they are in tune with one another to give the exact
same note. If not, sound would be uneven and disturbing. Expert musicians have the skill to
identify the exact tune and can manually adjust it by screwing the plugs. But with the case
for beginners, who lack the experience to identify the tune may find it difficult. So, they
need an aid for tuning their instrument before playing. Present methods of identification
include relative methods where musicians themselves has to manually wind the pegs
slightly to the required tune. This method can be tricky for those who are not masters in the
field. Automatically tuning the strings can remove this problem and improve customer
satisfaction. It helps to increase the time of practice for beginners by automatically tuning it
to the exact frequency.
This project is an experimental setup to tune the strings semi-automatically by using
appropriate gear mechanism.
