Abstract:
ABSTRACT
Industrial fire breakouts mostly occur due to gas leaks. These cause dreadful damage
to the equipment and human life leading to injuries and deaths. Taking Bharat Petroleum
Corporation Limited (BPCL) as a base, gases can be categorised as flammable and toxic. The
category of flammable gases include Hydrogen and Hydrogen Sulphide, while Carbon
Monoxide, Methane and Hydrogen Sulphide are considered as toxic gases. The leakage of both
types of gases are lethal. The existing system consists of a gas monitoring system, which works
on the principle of IR detection. The workers also carry a small gas detection device called
responders, which can detect the presence of Hydrogen Sulphide and Carbon Monoxide, but
they are less precise. In this project, gas leakage detection is done with the help of a rover. The
rover moves on a prescribed path and it carries the gas sensor, which senses the required gases.
The values obtained are transmitted to the main server with the help of the Wi-Fi module. This
in turn is used to activate the HVAC system in case of an increase in the gas values above the
threshold.
